A Prior Engagement
You are etched in my brain.
I hear your voice,
remember your habits,
recall our time together.
And I feel no pain.
no longing
little regret
If only we knew.
that all we'd done was grow up,
maybe
we could have
spared ourselves
but we fought,
and we lied.
We gnashed teeth,
and made promises
we didn't understand,
or didn't want to keep.
For what purpose?

I sense the distance between us
it seems my problems are our weakness
and although our love is endless
tough love is friendless
your distracted and you’ll miss it
so inverted when the kiss hit
and so my love was monotonic
cause my patience has exploded
if it’s a crush then ill twist it
corroded love is so insistent
and I am just a service
little stars filled with courage
but this isn’t, its explicit
in an instant its persistent, but I won’t bother you
I’m a coward or I wish you’d choose..

Chest earthquakes create tremors and upturn tectonic plates in your stomach. It’s like breathing a full breath of fresh air. Lungs expanded, scents of natural soils, flowers, and musk wafting in, filling your head with clearness and keenness.
But it’s also holding that breath, that air, that freshness in. Scared to let go. Fearful that once you do, the next breath will depreciate in value. It will not be as clean, natural, and full. It might be short hasty gasps full of terror and the scent of death. Decaying flesh lingering on the edge of your nostrils like snot dribbles.

I LOVE this. It feels like it's written to be performed. This would make a STRONG spoken word piece. Given my theater background, I'm very particular about performance pieces, as well as writing in general, but this.. this is a VERY strong performance piece!
